It has been proved by the research that sisters have a role to play in making us nice. The research says that one can do away with the feeling of loneliness if he grows up with one female sibling in the family.

Blackstone River Canal Heritage State Park runs through the towns of Northbridge and Uxbridge, MA. It spans just over 3 miles with wide, paved bike paths. “The paths are straight and smooth so my son could navigate them easily. They are also shaded which helped with the endurance!” says, Mike Robey, a local dad of two. The Blackstone River runs beside the path. You can see a waterfall, fishing, kayaking and more as you ride through.

This weekend we had a lot of laughs and shared many stories all based around our husbands, children and our own families (our parents/siblings). Some were fantastic about songs they made up with their siblings or how one woman is starting a business with her sister and others were…tragic – dealing with the loss of a sibling, illness of one or even the estrangement of others. Everyone had a different story of closeness and sometimes the drama that slowly tore relationships to pieces.

I couldn’t help but think of the work Heather and I have done in the area of this most complicated of relationships – siblings. We speak of the intimacy we share with our siblings, the love and memorioes we can share and even the resentment we can harbor. Is there a time that it is better to say goodbye to a relationship that makes you feel like you are drowning or is better to keep fighting for the person that you have grown-up with, fought for and ultimately…if you really pause over this…love?

Maybe that is what is so important about friendships…they can be fresh with no emotional baggage and they can ask you to share stories that perhaps you have not thought about in years – rekindling what you felt was lost forever.

Try out a new friendship with someone in your family.

Grab a packet of seeds and follow these simple instructions and in no time you will see a tiny seed emerge into a spectacular flower.

We think it is alot of fun to start this plant indoors in a small clear cup or a pot. Place the seed 1″ deep in the potting soil. Water the plant well each day and place in direct sunlight. After 3-4 weeks move the sunflower outside.

This makes an excellent cut flower and when the times comes to harvest the flower (when the back is yellow) you can hang the flower upside down in warm dry place. You can use the seeds to replant next season, to roast or as birdseed!

My back yard looks like a lake, a large lake and its putting me  in a gloomy mood. In the meantime, here’s a cute craft to keep the kids busy until the sun comes out!

Materials:

Coat hanger with paper cover

Glue

Cotton balls

Ribbon

Tape

Blue construction paper

3 Popsicle sticks

Tissue paper

Contact paper

Begin by placing glue all over on one side of the paper covered coat hanger. Place cotton balls over the glue to create the cloud.

Cut out two large rectangles of laminate. Expose the sticky side of one of the rectangles and place torn pieces of tissue paper in a random pattern until you cover the entire rectangle. Peel the other rectangle piece of contact paper and lay it directly over the other.

Cut out three umbrella shapes from the decorated laminate. Tape Popsicle sticks onto each of the umbrella shapes. Then tape ribbon to the umbrellas and attach them to the cloud with tape.

Cut out six raindrops from blue construction paper. Tape three drops on each piece of ribbon. Place them about one-inch apart descending down the ribbon for a “rain” effect. Then attach the ribbon to the cloud.
